The Story

  • Issey Miyake: Bodyworks. Fashion Without Taboos.
  • This original archive poster advertises a 1985 exhibition at the Boilerhouse: the first iteration of the Design Museum which ran between 1981 - 1986.
  • The Boilerhouse was the first project funded by the Conran Foundation which aimed to promote the discussion of design's role in shaping the contemporary world.
  • Issey Miyake: Bodyworks was the first exhibition to  bring the late Japanese designer's intricate tailoring to the UK. The usually immaculate, white-tiled gallery was pumped full of black foam rubber, out of which rose mannequins wearing Miyake’s garments.
  • Please note that these are original archive prints rather than reproductions, so may exhibit small markings.
  • Printed on slightly translucent, tracing paper style paper.
  • Very limited copies of this print remain.
  • Comes with an accompanying certificate of authenticity.
